EDLD 5363 Week Two

A busy week with learning podcasts, creating videos using Windows Live Movie Maker, and the Creative Commons.  Learned lots and have much more to learn.

Audacity Podcast Tutorial
What a great day to learn something new!  This is a quick podcast tutorial over Audacity.  Audacity is a free audio editor.  It is available for Windows and for Mac. However, today I will instruct over Windows operating systems only.
First to download Audacity.
1.        Go to Google or any search engine.
2.        Type Audacity.
4.       The next screen will ask you if you want to run the Audacity download. Click on "RUN".
5.       The next screen is a "Welcome to Audacity Set-Up Wizard".  Click "Next" button.
6.       Read the Set Up Information and click on the "Next" button.
7.       Select Destination Location—this is where the downloaded file will reside on your computer.
8.       Click on "Next".
9.       The next screen will be "Audacity"—How to Get Help.
10.   Click on "OK".
11.   The next screen will take you to the program.
12.   You may want your next step is the go delete the Sponsor's programs that came with your download.  Click on your 'start' button and go to Control Panel.
13.   Click on the Uninstall programs.  Find the programs and uninstall them.
NOW for the FUN part!!  How to Use Audacity!!
Audacity is very simple to learn.  First let's introduce you to the major buttons located across the top of your screen.  You have different colored buttons to aid you in the different operations.  The Far left button is the rewind button (purple double arrows facing left).  The green arrow pointing to the right is the play button.  The red circle button is the record button.  The parallel blue lines button is the pause.  The gold box operates the stop function.  And last, is the double purple arrow facing right which is the fast forward button.
Push record and begin your audio.  Once your audio is complete, push stop. Click on File and select 'Save Project As'.  Name your project and complete the saving process.  This will only save as an Audacity file.  If you need the audio to run on another program then you will need to choose the 'Export' selection.

This concludes how to download and use Audacity. I hope you have enjoyed it and found it informational.  The Audacity program is very easy to use but if you get into a snag, just click on the Help tab at the top right hand side.

Creative Commons

I found this website very informative and I got a great sense of relief.  As a teacher, I have survived long enough in the world of education to know I work with a bunch of believers in 'borrowing'.  I recently was involved in a cadre where I was asked to create a series of project based learning lessons.  I wanted to protect myself and not have my hard work sent to a publisher for someone else to make money off of me.  With this knowledge, I can now protect my hard work, rubrics, and formative assessments from others' right to 'borrow'.

Video Software Editing Tutorial
So you want to make a movie?  Let me introduce you to the simplest video editing software available.  And it is FREE!!  Windows Live Movie Maker!  First, type "Windows Live Movie Maker" in your search engine.  Please keep in mind if you are on an Apple product this editing software will not work.  You will need to search for 'iMovie' for your device.
Okay back to our task.  Download "Windows Live Movie Maker".  You will need to click on "Run", and then a window will come up asking you where you would like this program file stored. There will be a series of options for you to manage through.
Once you open 'Live Movie Maker', you will be on the "Home" tab.  You can import pictures and video with the tab labeled 'Add videos and photos'. The title, caption and credits frame is also located under this tab.
To add music, click on the 'Add Music' tab.
When all the pictures, videos, and music are added, just click on the "Auto Movie" button under the 'Home' tab for Windows to complete making your movie.
Finally, Click on the blue tab on the far left hand side of the toolbar.  Scroll down to ' Save Project As' and name your project.
Return to the blue tab, clicking on it and scrolling down to publish project.  Choose the plug-in of your choice to publish your movie project.
This concludes this video tutorial over how to use Windows Movie Maker.  I hope you have enjoyed and found it useful.  Happy Movie Making!
